2022 USA CURLING MIXED NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (Opening Ceremonies)

 In Rochester, NY!

Teams will test their mettle to win a medal.

Hubbub as all prepare to go out onto the ice.

More hubbub.

The ice crew discusses just how fabulous the ice will be for the matches.

Pensive piper prepares.

Onto the ice!

The unpied piper leads the participants.

Steve is available for your next function.  But you must pay the piper. www.leodpypz.com

Participants applaud.

Club President, Larry, speaks.

Norm has the honor of delivering the first stone. Norm is 95, and a hero to all!

Lisa provided a fine rendition of the National Anthem, regardless of the mask.

All participants are happy and ready to go, with the exception of Ebeneezer at the lower left.

And now for a few, but not all, team pictures.  See if you can guess from which state they hail.

Stewart Landing Survey 22 June 2020

Here are a few images capturing the status at Stewart Landing.

I don't believe any invasives were noted.  Please let me know if any of these images contradict that claim.

Pickerelweeds doing well.

These weeds usually point in the direction of flow,
but that force is sadly lacking during our dry June.

Hitchhiker

A bladderwort?

The spillway boards at the Stewart Landing Dam.
The boards are 8" wide, so the water at the dam is probably about 10" low.

Another hitchhiker.

Most invasive specimens collected this trip.

The guess is that some kind of egg masses are attached.

The salamander was positioned right there, seconds prior.

Once upon a game

Once upon a soccer game, a future Professional Photographer tried his hand at a bit of sports photography.  It was thought that all traces of the event had vanished, but a recent archaeological expedition into the ruins of Greece has provided us with a glimpse into a world long past.  Through the miracle of modern technology, these images have been retrieved from a long lost, but recently unearthed artifact.  This contact sheet was created by the ancients to capture images in chemicals.

One can only imagine who these people are and what their lives must have been like.  Can you identify any of them?

(Click on the images to see them enlarged.)

Questionable heading technique

Winning every head ball...

...with no idea where it's going.

Collision imminent.

Pass probably went out of bounds.

Big muscles and big hair, but not yet big bellies.

This pass looking more like it will go where intended.

Bending one around the wall to the far post.
Nicely placed shot!

Not sure the teammates are working together here.

At least there was one reasonable person without big hair.

Are they square dancing?
In command.

So much energy put into the shot, he left the earth.

Spectators rapt by the action, or perhaps wondering why on earth they're here.
